Review guidelines
Effective
Shops that use Booktender show reviews from their own clients on their booking pages. These guidelines say who can post one, what it shows, and the rules we apply the same way to every review, whatever its stars.
Who can review
- Only a client with a completed visit. After the visit, the shop’s thank-you text or email carries a link for that visit, and the review is posted through it. There’s no account to make.
- One review per visit, posted within 30 days after the visit.
- While a shop sends thank-yous, every completed visit gets the same one, wherever the shop has a way to reach the client, so a shop can’t choose whom to ask. There’s no way to offer a reward for a review.
- No link goes for a visit whose client’s phone number or email, or the email given for that booking, belongs to someone on the shop’s team (the thank-you goes without it), and none goes after a no-show or a cancelled visit.
What a review shows
- Your first name and last initial, like “Riley T.”
- The month and year of your visit, the service and your barber’s first name.
- Your rating, from 1 to 5 stars, and your text if you write any (up to 1,000 characters).
- The shop’s reply, if it writes one.
The shop can see which visit a review is about. Text with a phone number, an email address or a link can’t be posted, because reviews are public: don’t include anyone’s personal details.
You can change your review for 30 days after posting, and it then says “Edited”. You can delete it any time with the same link; that visit can’t be reviewed again.
How reviews are ordered
Newest first. Anyone can sort by highest or lowest rated instead, and filter by barber where the shop shows each barber’s rating. No review is featured or pinned, and the page says how its reviews are ordered.
Every rating counts. The average shows from 3 reviews, to one decimal, with how many reviews gave each number of stars. Reviews that were deleted or removed aren’t counted.
What we remove
Only Booktender removes reviews, and only for one of these reasons, applied the same way to every review. We never remove a review because it’s negative.
- Offensive or harassing: threats, hate, slurs, or attacks on a person rather than an account of the visit.
- Someone’s personal information: details that identify someone or let them be reached, like a phone number or a home address.
- Not about this visit: a review of something other than the visit it was posted for.
- Spam: advertising, repeated text, or text that isn’t a review.
- Conflict of interest: a review by the shop’s owners, staff or their family, or one given in return for a reward.
- A legal order: a court or other authority requires us to take it down.
When we remove a review, its link tells the person who posted it which reason applied.
How to report a review
Anyone reading a review on a shop’s booking page can report it: choose the reason, and add a note if you like. The shop can report a review from its settings. We look at each report within 2 business days and decide it against these guidelines; a report on its own doesn’t take a review down.

What shops can and can’t do
- A shop can reply to each review once, in public, and change or remove its reply.
- A shop can report a review to us. It can’t edit, hide or delete one.
- A shop may hide all its reviews from its booking page: all of them or none, never one. While they’re hidden, the page shows no reviews and no rating. Reviews still come in and the shop reads them; if it shows reviews again, they all show, low ratings included.
- Each shop chooses whether its page shows each barber’s rating.
Your right to post a review
In Alberta, a business can’t put a term in a consumer contract that stops you from publishing a review of its goods or services (Consumer Protection Act, s. 183.1). Shops that use Booktender agree not to have a policy that stops their clients from posting reviews.
Your information
A review stays up until you delete it through your link, or until we remove it under these guidelines; you can still delete one we removed. If the location you visited is removed from Booktender, your review shows only with its barber’s reviews, where the shop shows them, and is erased with the location 30 days after its removal; your link works until then. To check for abuse, we keep a keyed one-way hash of the internet address a review or report came from, and drop it after 90 days. Our Privacy Policy has the rest.
